We offer custom laser cutting using birch plywood, MDF and basswood plywood. From simple geometric shapes and templates to decorative pieces, model-making components, assembly projects and larger production runs, we welcome a wide variety of ideas.
Laser engraving is also available, with pricing based on the design, size, detail and work involved.
Every project is reviewed individually to ensure it is suitable for our materials and laser-cutting capabilities.
What Should You Include in Your Enquiry?
To help us understand your project, please provide as much of the following information as possible:
- Project description: What would you like us to make?
- Approximate dimensions: Length, width or diameter, if known.
- Material and thickness: Your preferred material, if you have one.

Don't have a finished design? No problem! You can contact us with just an idea or a description of what you need.
What Happens Next?
Once we receive your enquiry, we'll review your request and assess whether we can make your project.
If additional information is required, we'll contact you to discuss the details. Depending on the project, we may send you a short questionnaire and ask for drawings, photographs or design files.
Once the requirements have been agreed, we'll prepare an individual quotation and estimated production time.
Submitting an enquiry does not place an order or create any obligation to purchase.
Before confirming an order, you will have the opportunity to review and approve the final project details, quotation and applicable terms.

Custom Order Information & Terms
The following information explains our production capabilities, material properties and general conditions for custom-made orders.
Please review this information before confirming your order. Project-specific details and terms will be provided for approval before production.
1. Available Materials & Maximum Sizes
Our primary materials for custom orders are 3mm birch plywood and 3mm MDF.
| Material | Thickness | Maximum Size |
|---|---|---|
| Birch Plywood | 3mm | 69 x 49cm |
| Birch Plywood | 4mm / 5mm | On request |
| MDF | 3mm | 69 x 49cm |
| Basswood Plywood | 1.5mm | Fits within a 30 x 30cm sheet |
| Basswood Plywood | 2mm | Fits within a 30 x 30cm sheet |
Our maximum standard sheet size for 3mm birch plywood and 3mm MDF is 70 x 50cm, allowing finished pieces of approximately 69 x 49cm.
Other plywood thicknesses and larger sheet formats may be available on request. Availability can affect pricing and production times.
All projects are subject to an assessment of technical feasibility.
2. Design Files & Preparation
We recommend supplying vector files in SVG or DXF format.
We can also work from sketches, photographs and other image formats. Most suitable images can be converted into vector designs.
Additional work, including image conversion, design preparation, adjustments to existing files or requested modifications, may involve extra charges.
Any additional design costs will be included in your quotation before work begins.
3. Laser Engraving
Laser engraving is available for suitable custom projects.
Pricing depends on the artwork, dimensions, level of detail, material and time required for preparation and engraving.
Each engraving request is assessed and quoted individually.
4. Manufacturing Tolerances
Cutting Accuracy
Laser cutting offers a high level of accuracy. However, finished components may have small dimensional variations due to the cutting process and material properties.
This applies to external dimensions, holes and internal cut-outs.
We do not accept projects requiring exceptionally high dimensional precision that we cannot reliably guarantee.
If precise dimensions are essential to your project, please inform us before approving your order.
Material Thickness
All stated material thicknesses are nominal. Actual thickness may vary depending on the material, manufacturer and production batch.
Where exact thickness is important, we can check our available stock and assess whether the project is suitable.
5. Natural Material Properties
Warping & Dimensional Changes
Wood-based materials, including plywood and MDF, may experience natural bending, twisting or minor dimensional changes.
These can be affected by humidity, temperature, material thickness, component size and storage conditions.
Such variations may affect the fit of components, particularly in assembly projects or designs requiring closely fitting parts.
We cannot guarantee that natural material movement or warping will be completely absent.
Natural Wood Appearance
Birch plywood and basswood plywood are made from natural wood.
Colour, shade, surface appearance and grain patterns may vary between sheets and within the same sheet.
Birch plywood may also contain veneer patches used by the manufacturer to repair knots or other natural wood imperfections.
These patches may differ in colour, shape and grain direction from the surrounding wood.
We cannot guarantee identical colour, grain patterns or the complete absence of veneer patches across all components.
Product photographs show representative material appearances. Actual products may vary from the images shown.
If consistent colour, grain or surface appearance is particularly important, please inform us before requesting a quotation.
6. Laser-Cut Edges & Finishing
Laser cutting naturally produces brown or darkened edges.
For certain projects, additional sanding may be available to remove or reduce edge discolouration.
This is generally possible on straight edges that can be safely accessed using mechanical sanding equipment.
Small, rounded or complex shapes may not be suitable for this treatment without affecting their dimensions or shape.
Additional sanding may also affect dimensional accuracy.
Finishing options, availability and additional costs are assessed individually and included in the quotation where applicable.
7. Samples & Prototypes
Samples or prototypes may be available before full production begins.
They can help assess dimensions, component fit and material suitability.
The availability, cost and preparation time of a sample depend on the complexity of the design, required design work, materials and production time.
For larger orders involving closely fitting or assembled components, we recommend testing a prototype before proceeding with full production.
Please remember that material properties may vary slightly between production batches.
8. Quotations & Production Times
Design & Quotation Preparation
The time required to prepare a quotation depends on the complexity of the project, technical requirements and amount of design work involved.
More complicated projects may require additional time for assessment and preparation.
Production Time
Production times depend on project complexity, order quantity, required processes and material availability.
Materials or thicknesses that are not currently in stock may require additional ordering time.
An estimated production time will be provided with your individual quotation.
Standard order processing times stated in our Delivery & Shipping Policy do not apply to custom-made orders.
9. Order Approval & Payment
All custom orders require full payment in advance.
We do not offer deferred payment or payment after production.
Before production begins, you will be asked to approve the agreed order details, including:
- Final design and dimensions.
- Material and thickness.
- Order quantity.
- Additional work or finishing.
- Total price and any delivery charges.
- Estimated production time.
Production begins once the final order details have been approved and full payment has been received.
10. Changes & Cancellations
If you wish to change or cancel a custom order, please contact us as soon as possible.
Whether changes are possible depends on the stage of design preparation and production.
Changes requiring additional work may result in a revised quotation.
Where cancellation is permitted, reasonable costs already incurred for completed work or materials purchased or used specifically for the order may be taken into account, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Products made to a customer's specifications or clearly personalised may be exempt from the standard 14-day cancellation right.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights if goods are faulty or do not conform to the agreed requirements.
11. Returns of Custom-Made Products
Products genuinely made to a customer's individual specifications or clearly personalised are generally exempt from the standard 14-day right to cancel.
Where an order has been completed in accordance with the approved specifications, a change of mind or dissatisfaction with the appearance alone does not normally create a statutory right to return the goods.
This does not affect your statutory rights where goods are faulty, not as described or do not meet the agreed requirements.
12. Design Ownership & Copyright
Customers retain any intellectual property rights they hold in designs, drawings, sketches and artwork they provide.
Original designs and creative elements produced by Amazing Small Things remain the intellectual property of their respective creators or rights holders, unless otherwise agreed in accordance with applicable law.
Production files, including SVG and DXF files prepared by us, are not automatically supplied with the finished products.
Purchasing physical products does not automatically transfer copyright or grant the right to distribute digital design files.
Customers must have the necessary rights or permissions to use any artwork or design materials they provide.
Exclusive Design Use
Customers may request exclusive use of a custom design.
The availability, scope, duration and any additional fees for exclusivity are agreed individually and require an appropriate separate agreement.
Not requesting exclusivity does not automatically grant us permission to reuse customer-owned copyrighted designs.
13. Shipping & Delivery
Custom orders are dispatched in accordance with our store's delivery policies.
Standard UK delivery is free.
Larger, heavier or unusually sized projects may require additional shipping charges.
Any additional delivery costs will be included in your quotation and communicated before order approval.
Custom production times are agreed separately and are not covered by the standard order processing times stated in our delivery policy.
For further details, please see our Delivery & Shipping Policy .
Important: The information above outlines our general custom order conditions. Specific project requirements, pricing and applicable terms will be confirmed before an order is accepted. Nothing in these conditions limits your statutory consumer rights.
